Team strength
The game folds the 11 starters into five numbers: the strength of the goalkeeper, defence, midfield and attack, plus the overall strength. You see them on the Overview, and they are what a match works with.
A player’s strength in a line
For every player the game works out what they give their line:
skills by the line’s profile × position fit × form × stamina
The line’s profile
Every line values its own skills. The weights in a line add up to 100%, so a line’s strength is on the same scale as the skills.
| Line | Skills and weights |
|---|---|
| Goalkeeper | Defending 60%, physical 40% |
| Defence | Defending 50%, physical 30%, pace 20% |
| Midfield | Passing 35%, dribbling 25%, defending 20%, pace 10%, physical 5%, shooting 5% |
| Attack | Shooting 45%, pace 25%, dribbling 20%, physical 10% |
Position fit
| Who is where | Multiplier |
|---|---|
| In their own position | 100% |
| In another position of the same line | 90% |
| In another line | 75% |
| An outfield player in goal, or the goalkeeper outfield | 40% |
Form and stamina
- Form moves strength by ±10%: 50 is neutral, 100 is +10%, 0 is −10%.
- Stamina only penalizes: 100 costs nothing, 0 costs 10%.
Line strength and overall strength
A line’s strength is the average of its players. The overall strength weighs the lines:
| Line | Share of the overall strength |
|---|---|
| Goalkeeper | 15% |
| Defence | 30% |
| Midfield | 30% |
| Attack | 25% |
The Overview shows the overall strength without an opponent. In a match the formation matchup comes on top of the lines’ strength.
Formation against formation
In a match each line meets the matching line of the opponent:
- your defence meets their attack;
- your midfield meets their midfield;
- your attack meets their defence.
Every “extra” player over the norm gives the line +3%, every missing one −3%. The norm comes from 4-4-2 against 4-4-2, where neither side has an edge.
The table shows what your lines get. The order in a cell is defence / midfield / attack.
| Your formation ↓ / opponent → | 4-4-2 | 4-3-3 | 3-5-2 | 5-3-2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4-4-2 | 0 / 0 / 0 | −3 / +3 / 0 | 0 / −3 / +3 | 0 / +3 / −3 |
| 4-3-3 | 0 / −3 / +3 | −3 / 0 / +3 | 0 / −6 / +6 | 0 / 0 / 0 |
| 3-5-2 | −3 / +3 / 0 | −6 / +6 / 0 | −3 / 0 / +3 | −3 / +6 / −3 |
| 5-3-2 | +3 / −3 / 0 | 0 / 0 / 0 | +3 / −6 / +3 | +3 / 0 / −3 |
The values are percent of the line’s strength. The formation does not change the goalkeeper.
Example
The opponent plays 4-3-3 and you go for 3-5-2. In midfield you have five against three: midfield +6%. But your three defenders against their three forwards are two players short of the norm: defence −6%. Whether that pays off depends on your players: a strong midfield helps both the attack and the defence, while a weak defence lets more goals in.
