Leagues and divisions

The pyramid

Every country has its own pyramid of leagues. Under each league there are four leagues in the division below:

DivisionLeagues
11
24
316
464

How many divisions there are depends on the country. A new manager gets a club in the lowest division of their country.

A league

  • Every league has 10 clubs.
  • A season is 18 rounds: everyone plays everyone twice, home and away.
  • A win gives 3 points, a draw 1. The order in the table: Table.

Promotion and relegation

At the end of the season:

  • The champion of every league outside the top division goes up into the league above it.
  • A league sends down as many clubs as there are leagues under it: every champion from below takes the place of one of those who went down. If a league has four leagues under it, its bottom four go down.
  • Nobody goes down from the lowest division.

That way every league always keeps exactly 10 clubs. Your league’s promotion and relegation zones are marked in the table.

Promotion and relegation apply when the new season starts. That is also when the club gets a record in its history, and prestige and rivals are worked out again with the new division in mind.

How strong the divisions are

The lower the division, the weaker the players: each next one is a few skill points weaker on average. But clubs differ within a division too, so a solid mid-table side of a lower league can be better than the bottom side of a higher one.
